Cursor launches Origin, a native GitHub rival built for AI-agent-scale coding
Cursor rolled out Origin in beta to paid plans — a Git-compatible code-hosting platform with repos, pull requests, reviews and CI built into the editor, designed for many AI agents committing to a repo at once rather than human-paced development. It landed three days after Bloomberg confirmed SpaceX completed its $60B all-stock acquisition of Cursor, and the same morning GitHub suffered a multi-hour worldwide outage.
why it mattersThe first serious attempt by a major coding-agent vendor to own the hosting layer itself, not just sit on top of GitHub — with the timing turning a coincidence into a pointed statement.
